Results are in!

Well, it's finally over! The taxpayers got their say and here are the final numbers:

I have to applaud my opponents for a hard-fought campaign. We certainly gave the voters a clear choice of two philosophies for the board. and we all worked hard to get our ideas heard.  I also want to thank the two incumbents for their service on the current board - I'm sure that I'll appreciate their hard work even more in the years ahead!

Basically, the election results mean that 57% of voters chose the conservative vision - to operate the school system within the limits of our means. It was good to see our community return to its roots. We should proudly continue our tradition of fiscal responsibility while still demanding quality.

Finally, I simply want to say that I am humbled to have received the support of so many...and I pledge to do my best in serving our community.

  1. Although I don't agree with your views, I wish you well in providing the best for the students of West Bend.

  2. I hope you know how much your votes against the GSA are going to cost your school in legal fees to defend, and ultimately, lose. It's very expensive to litigate social justice issues. While the ACLU will be working from donations, you will be using valuable dollars your school should be using to educate kids. Such a huge loss for the kids in your district!

The Equal Access Act is a FEDERAL LAW that must be complied with. Every school that has fought it recently has LOST. The students have ultimately one every time, at a great cost to the school.

I can't believe how narrow minded you could be on this issue. This isn't a gay recruitment club, or even a "homosexual support group". It's an alliance of LGBT and STRAIGHT (that would be the "S" in the GSA - Gay Straight Alliance) kids and volunteer supervisors who come together to make schools safe and supportive for ALL kids. They work on anti-bullying programs, and hold a yearly day of silence.

No funding need come from the school district for these clubs. (However at this rate you will be spending a large amount of money defending your ill-thought-out decision.) How much does the district give to support the French club, chess club, math club?!?

Worse I think than that is what you are showing people about your area of Wisconsin. As someone who came from part of the Northwest where the Aryan Nation was founded I know how hard it can be for an area to come back from being seen as vile bigots. ALready your name, and the names of Dave Weigand and Tom Stepanski are being bandied about as bigots, homophobes and discriminators. Is that really how you choose to be seen?!?

I would really think twice about this decision and back away and let the kids have their group. Who does it really hurt in the end?!?

    Don't be lame.

  3. To quote the state rep of mississippi, steve simon-

"How many more gays does He have to put here on earth before you realize that He wants them here"

Make your children, grandchildren and those who look up to you proud, don't continue to promote discrimination and hate just because you can't relate directly.... make them proud and create a positive change for the children who will lead our country in the future.

    Thank you.

  4. How does it feel to be a national joke?

  5. Wow. The irony. A fiscal conservative costing the school potentially tens of thousands of dollars in taxpayer dollars to defend his own bigoted views. Way to go.

  6. How is it common sense to not allow gay and straight student alike to have the forum to discuss the issues they all face? Ignoring them does not make them go away. You do not have to agree with any viewpoint, but you are ethically bound not to discriminate based on it. High school is meant to expand our childrens minds, not limit their understanding of others by imposing ideology. Do you support book burning as well? I have not seen any statements from you regarding this vote, if you have the courage of your convictions, why not blog on that?

  7. Congratulations on the support you've gotten as well as becoming a grandfather. I hope you come to realize that your grandchild may be any orientation and your actions now determine the future of your children's children.

  8. As a schoolboard representative, it is your ethical duty to support all the children in your schools, and keep them safe, and keep them learning.

You have failed at this duty.

Children have been dying all over the country due to severe bullying, and a Gay/Straight Alliance has been identified as one of the key ways of preventing bullying in schools.

As a responsible representative, you should take an anti-bullying stance and approve the GSA, to protect the children in your district.
